In April 2024, German visual artist Matthias Garff and Spanish artist Veronica Garcia collaborated with school children from the communities surrounding Tumba-Tumba and held a series of workshops to co-create sculptural animal pieces made from found objects in and around the site.

Matthias and Veronica's work inspires a love for animals and life on earth. This appreciation hopefully leads to generations rethinking their relationship with consumption and waste, because garbage is still an issue encountered globally.

Thank you to Goethe-Institut Philippinen for making our partnership with these wonderful artists possible!

The Artists

Matthias Garff joined the Biennale thanks to CANVAS’ partnership with Goethe Institut, and ANOHA: The Children’s World of Jewish Museum in Berlin, for which he created over thirty animal sculptures.

Participating alongside him is Veronica Garcia, a Spanish intermedia artist. She experiments with old technology, DIY tools, and digital media to tell stories. She believes that the future is a garden.
