Air, Water, Earth, Fire, Void
Geraldine Javier

Air, Water, Earth, Fire, Void by Geraldine Javier is characterized by the changes that found and discarded objects experience, like rust and moisture. She used cloth to wrap (balutan) scrap and discarded metal. Over time, the rust from these metals imprint on the fabric.

In this manner, Javier works on discarded metal - something man-made that is not easily disposed of, but simply rusts over time; and something that is often seen as worn out, old, and possibly dangerous - and gives them new life through art.

The Artist

Geraldine Javier explores the human relationship with nature through her artworks in the form of paintings with collaged elements like preserved beetles and butterflies and installations of found objects. She currently resides in the countryside of Batangas where she collaborates with the women in her community for her projects.
